Search for a Haida tires review and you mostly find two things: forum threads arguing about tires the writer has never driven on, and spec pages that tell you nothing about who the tire is for. We sell and fit Haida tires every day in our own bays in Edmonton, so this is the review we would give you at the counter — what each line is, who it suits, and where it is not the right choice.
One thing up front: we are a Haida dealer, so read this as a dealer's guide, not an independent lab test. What we can tell you honestly is what we stock, what it is built for, and what our customers come back and tell us.
What Haida makes, in plain terms
Haida is a value-priced tire brand with a very wide range. At Stallion Auto we carry seventeen Haida lines, from compact-car touring tires up to 37-inch mud-terrains, plus five dedicated winter lines. Every Haida tire we sell carries a 60,000 km treadwear warranty, or manufacturer defect only, and the load index and speed rating are published on every size so you can match the tire to your vehicle's door placard.
The reason people choose Haida is simple: price. On our shelf, a set of real winter tires starts from about $100 a tire, and summer and all-season lines start lower than that. The question a good review should answer is whether you give anything up for that price — and the honest answer is that it depends on matching the right line to the right vehicle.
Haida winter tires: five lines, one job each
All five Haida winter lines we stock carry the three-peak mountain snowflake mark for severe snow. They are not interchangeable, though:
HD617 — the broadest fit
Twenty-four sizes from 15 to 20 inch, with T, H and V speed ratings and an XL load rating. If you drive a sedan, hatchback or small SUV and just want a proper winter tire, this is usually where we start.
HD677 — the lowest price on a real winter tire
Our lowest-priced winter line, with twenty-one sizes from 15 to 19 inch. It is a genuine winter tire, not an all-season pressed into service — the right pick when budget matters most.
HD687 and HD697 — for cars that handle
The HD687 keeps H and V speed ratings on performance cars, across twenty-four sizes. The HD697 is the widest run we carry — twenty-eight sizes up to 21 inch — and covers the low-profile fitments that are hard to find in winter.
HD657 — the studdable option
Ten sizes for SUVs and crossovers, plus one C-rated van size. It is sold without studs, with stud holes moulded into the tread, so studs can be added for glare ice. If most of your driving is cleared city roads, the HD617 is the quieter choice.
Haida all-season, touring and performance
For three-season or year-round driving on cars and crossovers, the lines our customers buy most are:
- RunSpirit — the quiet everyday commuter tire for sedans and small SUVs.
- HD937 — performance-touring for modern crossovers on 17 to 20 inch wheels.
- HD927 — Z-rated ultra-high-performance, W and Y speed ratings, 17 to 22 inch.
Haida for trucks
This is where matching matters most, because a half-ton and a three-quarter-ton need very different tires:
- HD837 — highway tread for half-ton trucks, SUVs and crossovers.
- HD868 — P-metric highway tire for full-size pickups, quieter than an LT equivalent.
- HD829 — 10-ply LT construction for heavy-duty pickups that tow and haul.
- HD878 — all-terrain in LT and flotation sizes, Load Range E.
- HD869 — mud-terrain for lifted builds, 33 to 37 inch.
If you are not sure whether your truck needs P-metric or LT, read our guide to LT vs P tires before you buy.
Where Haida is a good buy — and where it is not
Haida makes the most sense when you want a correctly rated tire for daily driving without paying a premium-brand price: commuting, family vehicles, winter sets on a second set of rims, and work trucks that need the right load rating. It is not the tire we would push on someone who wants a specific premium model for track days, or who has a strong preference for a brand they already trust — we can supply other brands to order, and we will say so.
Whatever the line, the most important spec is not the brand on the sidewall. It is the load index and speed rating matching your placard, and the right size for your rim. Our tire size chart and sidewall guide explain how to read both.
Fitting Haida tires in Edmonton
Every Haida tire we sell is mounted, balanced and torqued in our own bays at 2843 50 Ave NW. Tire installation is $100 for a set of four or $25 a tire, the same price whether you bought the tires here or brought them in, and it is by appointment. New tires also carry Alberta's $5 per tire recycling levy.
